Las Vegas Lights FC has announced the signing of promising young defender Shawn Smart for the upcoming 2024 USL Championship season, with the deal awaiting official approval. Smart, a 19-year-old talent, is transitioning from a successful collegiate career at Clemson University, where he contributed to the team's NCAA Division I College Cup victory.

Smart made significant contributions during his time with Clemson, featuring in 36 games and starting 21 times in the latest season, showcasing his skills with two goals and three assists. Sporting Director Gianleonardo Neglia praised Smart's abilities and potential, highlighting him as a key addition to the team's strategy of integrating young, high-quality players.

The Florida native, who also has experience in the U.S. U-17 National Team pool, expressed his readiness to start his professional journey with Las Vegas Lights FC after his collegiate success. The Lights are set to begin their season on March 9 against Memphis 901 FC, with their first home game against FC Tulsa on March 16 at Cashman Field.
